North Carolina Medication Aide (Med Tech) Practice Exam

North Carolina runs two similarly-named but genuinely separate credentials here. Medication Aide (Nursing Home) and Medication Technician, or Med Tech (Adult Care), cover different settings, skilled nursing facilities versus assisted living and group homes, with different requirements attached. Confirm which setting you're actually being certified for before you crack open a study guide.

Before you're eligible to test, North Carolina requires a 24-hour Board of Nursing-approved medication aide training program, current listing on the Nurse Aide I Registry, a clean record on the Health Care Personnel Registry, and a high school diploma or equivalency.

The exam has two parts, and one leaves zero room for error:

• Written multiple-choice exam: 80% or higher to pass.
• Medication Administration skills exam: 100% required on critical elements, full stop, plus 80% on non-critical elements.

That 100% requirement on critical elements is the standout fact here. There's no partial credit on the safety steps that matter most, correct technique on critical elements is a binary pass, no "mostly right."

Testing has moved to Credentia, consistent with other North Carolina healthcare credentialing exams that shifted away from Pearson VUE. Older instructions referencing Pearson VUE scheduling are outdated, register and schedule through Credentia's platform instead.

The written portion allows some margin (80%), the skills portion doesn't (100% on critical elements). Your practical training deserves at least as much focused attention as your written review, arguably more, since the room for a mistake there is exactly zero.
